John White was an English artist, explorer, cartographer and governor of the English settlement on Roanoke Island. In 1585 he accompanied a failed colonizing journey to Roanoke Island ( which is now North Carolina).In 1587,he served as governor of a second failed expedition, which came to be known as the Lost Colony.(Click link to learn more about John White)
